Required for all operators of Winter Service equipment including Snowploughs, Gritters and Snow Blowers, this City & Guilds qualification is nationally recognised and enables successful candidates to be entered onto the national register of Winter Service Operatives and gain their NEREO Card.
WINTER SERVICE OPERATIONS (City & Guilds Scheme 6159)
Designed for operatives, commences on 1st November 2008 differing from the previous 6159 scheme in several ways i.e. new units have been introduced and revised units, although appearing of similar content take into account more recent changes to vehicles / gritter types and Highways Authority requirements. (See new unit list over page).
The mandatory Health & Safety Unit 080 is a classroom based one day course for a maximum of eight operatives and must be carried out before assessments can begin (vehicles/equipment will be required in the afternoon for discussion/inspection purposes). Thereafter we can supply an in house training day for a maximum of eight, this may or may not be required depending on experience*
Assessments would then be carried out in a block along with any training required following completion of Unit 080. All resources below must be supplied for assessments. A maximum of two unit assessments per day are permitted i.e. two operatives requiring one unit each or one operative requiring two units (both options are one unit am and one unit pm).
* Prior Knowledge:
If candidates are novices/inexperienced in the range of different vehicles / gearboxes / gritting equipment they require certification for, they should receive prior training / instruction and gain some experience before we commence any assessment programme.
Resources for Assessments:
To be available for use by all operatives prior to / during the programme of assessments as follows:-Vehicle / Spreader / Plough – complete and in good / legal condition.
Driver to see Hopper correctly loaded with de-icing material(s).
A washdown facility with proper / safe access and equipment in good working order must be used by each candidate in order to complete their assessment.
Each candidate must provide 2 x passport sized photos during the course.
Each candidate must produce both parts of their current driving licence for the vehicle group to be driven.
The Assessor can carry out the role of ‘assistant’ but only in direct response to the candidate’s requests / instructions. Training cannot be carried out whilst the candidate is under assessment.
If the candidates have previously held any City & Guilds qualifications then their original Enrolment Number should be noted on their paperwork. This will link previous qualifications and speed up the registration process. The Enrolment No. can be found on the bottom right side of any C & G’s certificate.
We strongly recommend that operatives should be thoroughly conversant with their gritting route. If they are not they should be accompanied on drives with an experienced operative to gain knowledge prior to their own assessment.
City & Guilds Certification with NEREO Registration Card valid for 5 years.
