Topics to be covered: Principles of safety barrier design History of safety fences / barriers Highways Agency Sector Scheme 2B BS EN 1317 + TD19/85 / BS 7669 - 3 Specification for Highway Works (SHW) Site Safety / Personal Protection / Risk Assessments Testing of Z posts / surface components Delivery and storage of materials Basic concrete practice Tensioning TCB barriers Maintenance of beams / posts and fixings Fence Inspection and fault finding Setting out lines and flares Component recognition GA Drawings / Specifications Course Objectives / Practical Activities: Read and understand current drawings and specifications Recognise types of fences (TCB;OBB;UCB;DROBB; CORUS;FLEXBEAM;OTHERS) Carry out all operations in a safe and efficient manner De install / install TCB/OBB Sections Recognise components of various types Handle, off-load and stack material in a proper manner Setting out for post and beam installations Erect fences to specification Identify correct fasteners and appropriate hand tools Tension TCB safety fence Inspect completed fences & identify faults /defects

Sector Scheme 2B
Qualification: There are mandatory course tests and question papers throughout the duration of the course. A card will be issued by LANTRA Awards on successful completion of all course work and is valid for a maximum period of 5 years. Candidates must attend an update course prior to the card expiring, it cannot overrun but any overlapping days up to 6 months can be added to the life of the new card. The Workbook: This is a comprehensive A4 ring binder incorporating the History, Principles, Working Practices and Knowledge required to effectively install, dismantle, repair, replace, defect check and adjust Vehicle Restraint Systems. It includes various handouts, manufacturer’s information, adjustments / tensioning tables; up-to-date GA Drawings and Specifications and is issued for ‘open book’ referencing during the course and attendees to keep after course. Certification: A VRS Registration Card issued by Lantra Awards
