SSSTS - Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (Part of Construction Skills “Site Safety Plus” Suite of Courses) Duration: 2 days Target Audience: Supervisors within the construction industry seeking the knowledge and information required to comply with their health and safety responsibilities and to meet the UKCG requirements for supervisors working on their sites. Aims & Objectives: The SSSTS course aims to provide supervisors with the relevant knowledge and skills required to supervise sites safely. Course Content: The SSSTS supervisor’s role Health & Safety Law & Enforcement Safe Systems of Work Risk Assessment & Method Statements Principles of Prevention Health & Safety Management Performance Measurement Permit Systems Fire Prevention & Control Occupational Health (Noise, Vibration, Asbestos etc) Hazardous Substances (COSHH) Presentation of Toolbox Talks CDM (Construction Design & Management Regulations) Working at Height PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Manual Handling Accidents & First Aid Behaviour & Intervention Skills Publications: Candidates will be issued a copy of GE700 – Site Safety Simplified and GT 700 – Tool Box Talks (where in company equivalent is not available). Assessment: The method of assessment is by examination (multiple choice questions) at the end of the course as well as continuous assessment through interactive sessions. Certification: Certificates are issued by Construction Skills and are valid for 5 years. The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme course has been designed to meet the needs of site supervisors within the construction industry. This course is for first line managers - those who have, or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities. The SSSTS training course is designed for team leaders, foremen, gangers, first line managers and supervisors with supervisory responsibilities and a need to understand their legal duties. It provides an introduction to health and safety, welfare and environmental issues for those requiring an understanding of their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities.

SMSTS Training
The industry recognised essential training for individuals with site supervisors accountability, or businesses providing services to construction or civil engineering sites. At the conclusion of the course delegates are required to undertake a short multiple choice assessment. Delegates who successfully complete the projects and assessment are awarded the Construction Skills Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme Certificate. Understand the need for risk assessments Demonstrate adequate proactive communication and why reactive monitoring is essential Be able to describe how the role of supervisor impacts on site safety and the role of the site manager It will provide a sound knowledge base to enable them to give valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site. Having successfully completed this course, a natural progression would be to the five day Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course. This course is an ideal foundation for attaining a basic understanding of health & safety duties and responsibilities for junior management in construction work. During the course projects are undertaken in groups and constantly assessed by the tutor. The nationally recognized Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) ConstructionSkills Site Safety Plus accredited SSSTS training course is an essential part of modern day site supervisor safety training. The training course is designed to ensure that candidates have an overview and understanding of their responsibility for supervising and helping to oversee safety in a construction site environment. The course content includes the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and relevant regulations as well as specific site issues which include working at height and giving tool box talks. The two-day SMSTS Refresher training course is only available for candidates who have attended the full five-day training course and can provide evidence of attending the original course. Delegates are required to attend all sessions of the SMSTS Training, since without full attendance the Construction Site Manager’s Safety Certificate (SMSTS Course) will not be awarded. At the end of the course, each individual has to pass a multiple choice test which qualifies them for the Construction Site Managers Safety Certificate. These safety training courses are run through a network of CITB accredited Training Providers. SMSTS the Site Management Safety Training Scheme is designed to facilitate construction health and safety. For Site Managers, the CITB SMSTS qualification, also known as the Site Safety Plus Scheme, is a recognised qualification outlined in the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) for the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007
